About
Sarah Ridgley is an American artist known for her work as a printmaker and generative artist. Ridgley mostly works with generative typography, exploring temporality through the material of date, time, and place. With themes rooted in nature and text, she developed an asemic writing algorithm to create visual poetry, considering ideas of universal comprehension and text as visual language — an object to be viewed rather than read.

‘Sans Titre’ [eau]
SARAH RIDGLEY
In line with her series on nympheas, Sarah Ridgley creates 'Sans Titre' [eau] with a code generating a series of variations on the theme of water. The raw material of these works consists of tiny vowels and polygons, randomly clustering to form a surface reminiscent of water. Through her iterations, the artist seeks to reflect the ever-changing nature of water. The use of vowels, in addition to referencing the word "eau," invites the viewer to look at the artwork rather than read it.
Artwork presented at "The Poetics of Water", an exhibition organized in collaboration with DANAE, Paris, 2024.
